Linguistic Wanderlust

Ok. I’m really back now. Sorry for the lapse in writing. Recently I’ve been finding myself with the constant symptoms of linguistic wanderlust. I was once studying Mandarin Chinese with a zeal that you wouldn’t believe. Now, well I’ve been studying Modern Standard Arabic and Brazilian Portuguese. To say that I love languages is an understatement. But my problem is that if I have no one to speak to I become easily enticed and drawn away by the desire to learn another language. This is called linguistic wanderlust. What are some of the symptoms?

  • An sudden standstill in the acquisition of the language that one is presently learning
  • Sudden desire to search for information about another language
  • Actually buying materials for studying that new language

These were some of the things that happened to me before I actually drifted away from studying Mandarin Chinese. Now I’m learning Arabic and Portuguese. I know that I’ll go back to Chinese one day and everything will make more sense but as for now, I’m going to stick with the Portuguese and the Arabic.
